Sashae,
The frame did look like that, with the chrome lugs, and with those decals on the headtube and seattube
, but it said Cyclone everywhere that one says 3Rensho. It must have been before the transition to 3Rensho Cyclone and eventually 3Rensho. I guess that puts it some time around the mid to late 70's?

I almost bought one of those once. The view from the top was just too ******** feeling for me. Not to mention the fact that the top tube isnt really a tube it seemed. Just a solid bar.

Rensho love
Wussup all you 3Rensho lovers. i'm hoping these are sized ok. sorry if they're not.
Outta storage and back out on the road.

Got it from my coach in 88-ish...it was a little scratched and i hated purple. Had it painted proper.

won many local races. traveled the west as a Jr. racer.

top 20 in The Whiskey Creek Stage Race...Vaughters won...

Qualified and went to National TT Championships in Albany, NY...Hegg won.

Left it lonely in the garage for about 18 years and now that i'm "old" 39 in 30 days...3 days after my first race in 18 years.....we break out the old Cyclone Champ......

there's your elephant. i'll feel like one while trying to turn back the clock......IN STYLE.

..hope it rains

That's nice, but this thread has been dead for two years, and this is also the single speed sub forum.
I think the folks in the classic and vintage forum would be happy to hear about your bike in a (new) thread though.

There's a lot of posters in this thread here that seemed to be very interested in 3Renshos of all kinds. they may be dead by now, yes, but they may have missed it elswhere.
I think i did post a link to my bike in the vintage section too but this was my favorite and most informative 3Rensho thread.
i'll check it out over there in classic/vintage.
thanks.

mark of supreme quality
jk, just a mark of certification for certain japanese racing events. people do perceive it as a mark of quality when in reality it was never intended as such. things that are certefied often happen to be of good quality, but that's probably more because of their higher cost rather than certification.
every so often it seems popularity swings in and out of favor for njs frames and concurrently with parts. I personally like the frames, often lugged (though mine is brazed, somewhat uncommon across builders but more common from ****amori, builder for peloton) and of good steel. when popularity picks up, so do prices. eventually people figure out paying $800+ dollars for a steel bike essentially based on 60's-80's tech is ridiculous, people backlash at njs saying it's stupid and people paying prices for njs stuff are delusional, and prices drop. right now i'd say is a low point for njs pricing (i got mine for 360+shipping about a year ago. prices now seem to be around 500-600 compared to 800+ a couple years ago).
they're not the highest tech by any means and there are much better choices for the $$$ people were spending on this stuff before for track racing or street use, but i'd say if you can get a frameset for ~$500 it's a solid deal. the steel is good, the builders are for the most part very skilled (vivalo was failing hard on forks before, they lost their certification for it), and they often have that aggressive steel geometry so many people love. if you're looking for it they offer a more classic look (compared to say a bareknuckle, which is around the same price but decidedly a more modern take on steel)

Thanks for the clarity. When I got my 3RENSHO I was the only one around with one. It went fast then and soon it will go fast again. ....don't think I could ever sell it.
what does NJS stand for though.

it's only for track racing. your bike wouldn't be NJS certified b/c it's a road bike, though it is badass. I have an NJS frame from another builder called Presto
