im so depressed
i was building up a fixed gear bike for my friend. he passed away on friday. he never got to see it and will never be able to ride it. he was so ****ing excited about it though and was more than happy that anyone would ever do such a thing for him. i just finished the bike this week and will be taking it to his memorial service. the frame was painted by me and has his nickname painted on it (FSTICK). the frame is too small for me and his parents wouldnt know what to do with it. i dunno. i will post pics when i get the chance to. im so ****ing bummed though.

Wow, that is horrible. Was it a sudden thing? Sorry for your loss.

Jesus, dude, I'm bummed for you. I don't know what to tell you about the bike...but surely there's some fixed gear rider out there who would fit it and needs a bike and maybe can't afford one?

it was pretty unexpected. i called the coroner and they said cause of death is pending lab results.
though he did have head trauma. they found him in his apartment. he was assaulted by BART security a few weeks ago (for taking his bmx bike on the escalator). maybe it was related to that. theyre gonna have a big lawsuit on their hands. i dunno.

yeah i think im going to do that. also he has two bmx bikes and his dad is bringing them to the service and wants me to pick one to keep. man when he emailed me that i didnt even know what to say. im more than honored but at the same time i feel as though i dont deserve it. ive never lived close to him and never got to ride with him. but i know a few of his other friends used to tear up the streets on his bmx bikes. maybe i will take it and then pass it on to someone more deserving.

this makes me feel really sad. i'm sorry for your loss. best wishes to you and the family. and... hopefully he's in a better place, riding bikes with god or krishna or something sweet like that.

so sorry. the fact that you were making such an effort to bring him happiness is a thing of grace. i don't think it really matters that he didn't get a chance to ride it, the excitement of the idea and the fact that you were doing it is really what mattered. put the bike in a corner somewhere and when you find someone who deserves and needs it you'll know.

Sorry for your and his family's loss. Best you can do is honor and ride in his memory.

if you have the space it would be pretty cool if you hang it in your house. you could also ride it on special occasions. man, I dont know... thats horrible. I wish you and his family the best getting through this tough time.

Throw a big party in his name, raffle off the bike. Give the money to his parents to help pay for the legal fees. I think that's what I would want if something like that happened to me. One last big post-humous hurrah to stick it to the security guards.

I like AfterThisNap's idea. You also could keep a BMX in his memory, ride it anew as only you would and give the fixie to one of his close friends. That way the two of you would be doing something new. I hold you in my heart and hope you feel alive. It is sad, but this is how the earth changes. Namaste, rioboy

thanks you guys. i took it to the memorial service yesterday and everyone loved it. his parents asked me to bring it to show. im feeling a bit even more conflicted now though. my friend who came with me and who i met him through, wants the bike that i built for him. im feeling a bit uneasy about giving it to her. i mean she said shed ride it but, i dunno i feel a bit uncomfy about that. after i built it up and rode it i was just so stoked that i wanted to keep it. i think im just going to tell her that i want to keep it. if she wants me to build her a bike then i will do that. pics to come soon!!!

sorry to hear about your loss. on a side note, i say that if you will sell the bike make sure it goes to someone worthy of its value. if not, keep the frame in memory and use the parts. peace.

Don't give it away. Keep it in his memory, and start a foundation in his name. The effort you put toward raising money for his family will take your mind off the tragedy, but not off your friend. This may be something that gives your life direction, which would be an awesome legacy for him to be remembered by...

Jesus christ, I take my bikes on the BART escalators all the time. I had no idea I was flirting with a cop beatdown for it.... Makes one wanna tape a shiv under the top tube or something!
Scary **** man, sorry to hear about this. Best wishes to you.

That is a beautiful bike, and I think it shows a lot about how much you loved your friend. I'm really sorry for your loss, and would encourage you to either keep the bike for the occasional ride or auction off for charity.
