Manhattan Bridge Woes

Anybody else notice that there's some serious trouble brewing on the Manhattan Bridge these days? Last night as I was riding home I noticed what looked like a cluster of butcher's paper lying in the roadway. Being the naturally mischivious type, I aimed my wheel at it, only to veer away at the last moment when I noticed that the butcher paper was concealing a large pile of feces. This morning, hung over and angry on the way to work, I spotted another execretory parcel, off the the side of one of the observation areas/construction sites. This pile of sh1t was concealed in a black sweater.

On the way home from work, I noticed another troubling development. The impromptu farmers market that gathers underneath the bridge overpass had expanded north, all the way to the entrace to the bike path. The pedestrians formed an inpenetrable wall of flesh. Now, I got lots of love for the Chinatown grocers, but something needs to be done about this.

To top it all off, this evening there was another pile right next to the original butchers paper turd (which is still there, along with the sweater one). I'm not positive if this third pile is poop, as it was pea green. but the consistency was right.

Oh, and there's also sh|t-tons of glass all over the place.

It's enough to make a fellow want to ride the Brooklyn Bridge...

yeah I saw that yesterday, it was pretty foul. Too many pedestrians walk there now and litter on the bridge.

The annoying construction doesn't help either.

pretty likely that the poop is from the construction workers. like the cabbies who pee into gatoraid bottles and leave them on the streets.

gross, but prolly necessary.

The poop comes from bums who hung out on manhattan side of the bridge. I saw one at action about 830 pm. instead of calling 311 get over there and make sure no one ****s on the bridge. It'll be more effective and will save our tax money.

Now 311 just cleans up poop in NYC?

Talk about falling on hard times.

Chill light on my sight as my ego becomes
A funky child with some words on my tongue
Be like intake of breath and my mouth gets loose
While I scatter my spit I dream of juice

**** yes.

Problem with the poop on the Brooklyn is that it talks back after you tell it to get out of the bike lane.

I thought the reason you pooped on a bridge was to poop OFF the bridge, so you could poop, and then turn around and watch it fall into the water below. Pooping onto the deck is just foul. These bums need to find a new pastime.

foul.
too many pedestrians on the north side of the bridge, but nobody to enforce it. but, it still isnt worse than the peds on the bklyn bridge, so i guess there's that.

yeah they definitely need to enforce it better or at least better signage. Every time I tell people to use the otherside next time, they get all pissy, even when I say it nicely... which probably isn't all that nice but still, the other entrance is only a block away. Maybe we should start riding on the pedestrian side of the bridge.

actually, bikes are banned from the south path, but peds are not banned from the north side. it just makes enforcement sense. people will walk their bikes, people will get off the bike and walk with someone over the bridge, and people will just plain walk over the bridge. do we really want officers on the bridge handing out tickets for walking? i say let the cops work on making the streets safer for us.

i think the best thing to do is remind pedestrians that the view is much, much better on the south side path.

every time i think about asking the city to do something about the market down there at the end of the path, i remember that it might not be just signs (which would be nice), but one of those damn cattle gates that make you have to get off to go through the zigzag, unless trackstanding and bunnyhopping seems easier. dinged up frames, too. i hate those.

might help curtail the number of patties on the bridge though.

during the transit strike there were cops standing at the entrances to the northside path telling peds to take the other side. that was nice.

Particularly in the last couple of weeks. Seriously, does anyone else feel like New York has been ruder, filthier, and generally more 1980s New York this last week than it's been in decades? I've seen more burned-out cars, piles of poop, etc than I have in a long, long time. I even saw a crack vial under a park bench this week.... I don't think I've seen a genuine old-skool crack vial since 1994!

Oh man that brings back memories of junior high!

No, I didn't do crack. The recess area at my junior high was littered with crack vials. Oh yeah, and I went to school only a few blocks away from "Crack is Wack."
