Pake vs. Mark V...

Basic differences I see:

Pake is threadless
Pake is round tubing

But same tubing. Okay, people like Tony, but and Pake is a racist name. What else...? Geometry similar?

No_Minkah 06-29-06 03:37 PM

Mark V is also threadless.

Aeroplane 06-30-06 06:52 AM

Summary: The Pake has steeper angles, a shorter wheelbase, shorter chainstays, longer HT, and a slightly lower BB. Probably a little trackier.

genericbikedude 06-30-06 07:05 AM

pake is like soma but with cheap tubing. iro comes with good components if you buy the whole bike.

queerpunk 06-30-06 07:26 AM

the pake is neither threaded nor threadless. it comes optionally with an unthreaded fork and a 1" steer tube. you could get a headset and threaded fork for it, if'n you want.

pixel 06-30-06 11:48 AM

how are 1-1/8" threadless stems with a shim to fit on the 1" (as 1" threadless stems are harder to find,no?)?
seems like it would be more likely to slip, but I've never ridden it so I have no clue.

hyperRevue 06-30-06 12:08 PM

Wait, nevermind.

shishi 06-30-06 12:11 PM

Haven't been on either, but NYC seems to be sportin tons of IROS.

You shim 1 inch stems to fit 1 1/8 steertubes.

I'm either really confused (very possible) or you're messing with me... I always figured the shim went on the inside of the stem, decreasing the inside diameter down to 1" from 1-1/8"...

my 1" steertube pista has a 1-1/8" shimmed thomson elite road stem on it. no complaints.

my jackson has a 1-1/8" steertube and non-shimmed thomson elite road stem. no complaints there either.

hyperRevue 06-30-06 12:15 PM

I was all messed up.
Carry on.

thanks, always wondered about that.

dirtyphotons 06-30-06 12:16 PM

and for god's sake, don't shim a threaded stem.

shishi 06-30-06 12:17 PM

go for a ride to clear your head :D

hyperRevue 06-30-06 12:18 PM

Seriously.

How about an all day cook-out and playing in the park extravanganza?

shishi 06-30-06 12:20 PM

I'll start riding now, should hit MKE about noonish on Tuesday.

hyperRevue 06-30-06 12:24 PM

We're still be going strong.
Bring my best friend Nick, too.
He lives on Nassau.

geog_dash 07-01-06 03:29 PM

Pake works for me. Haven't ridden a Mark V, so I can't say. Pake is only a frame, so final result depends on what you put on it.

http://fixedgeargallery.com has a Pake review "coming soon." You might want to hold out for that.

I don't see any decisive differences in geometry, construction, or price. You won't go wrong with either. See what's available in your size.

matt_savvy 07-01-06 07:51 PM

racist name? is pake a slur in hawiian or something?
