Who the hell buys a bike, rides it 20miles, then sells it. Or buys a bike and lets it sit in their apartment for 6 months.

This vexes me to no end.

The same people who buy a gym membership in January, go 2 times and sell it on CL after not going for 6 months.

Ignoring a gym membership is a passive act. Stepping over your brand-new-still-with-the-little-rubber-hairs-on-the-tires Pista every time you need to go to the bathroom is a little more... willful.

it's the same as ignoring the gut you see in the mirror every time your in the bathroom peeing, or ignoring the gym membership card in your wallet or on your keyring.

I'm fighting the urget o write to each and every one and ask why they never rode their bikes. How can you drop that kind of cash on something and barely use it? And why don't I have that kind of money?

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

they buy it to be cool and realize that they're just vaginas

Not all didn't ride it; the first guy got some use, and even made some sensible upgrades. I wish I lived in SF so I could snatch them up cheap though...

Okay, you scoured the craigslist of five of the huge metropolitan areas in the united states, found ten bikes for sale.

And suggest a changing of the guard.

No offense, dude, but this analysis rivals that of the Moral Majority.

Bikes: Surly Cross-Check, '85 Giant road bike (unrecogizable fixed-gear conversion

The Pista:

1. Is very popular
2. Does not meet the needs of the average cyclist who does not track race.
3. Has been purchased by a lot of people because of #1 who are soon made aware of #2.

i was very leery of this when i bought mine. even the people at the shop were like "are you sure you want a track bike?" i was sure, and i'm going to ride my pista into the ground, however long that takes. but lazy me waited too long to sign up for the velodrame class so i have to wait until next month to get it on the track.

this is a really sad thread. those people make me sad. they spent all that money on a decent bike and didn't ride it. they made their bikes sad. it's not cool to make your bike sad. and if my girlfriend hadn't just bought an IRO, i'd be tempted to hit up one of those 53cm sellers.

That pic is hilarious. I want to write in a thought bubble above the rider in front (you know...the guy with the blue jeans and bullhorns): "Oh, snap! They caught me already?!"

(sorry about the huge photo...it's from that CL post)
