dude. girlfriend is going to law school. think about the future pay off.

wow, i attended university of albany and left after a term. it was so corny. number one party school! i didn't see what the big deal was. i do however, jump on the chinese bus and visit my little sister who is still attending the school. i was riding from downtown albany and some ss cats stopped me to praise the fixed world. they wanted me to join them at some spot, something called the antheist or anarchist. something like that. but god news is, if i make my way up to albany some time soon, i'll p.m and we'll ride.
|
there are 3 or 4 fixed riders in syracuse, if you're up for a long ride/road trip.
|
Not fixed (yet!). Haven't seen any fixies here yet!
Good to know you are out there. I usually lurk here as it is my favorite sub-forum on BF! |
Keep us (me) posted about Albany. I start a new job in 1 week, but in a year when my contract is completed, I'm considering SUNY Albany for even more education.

wow. people really hate albany. sure there are crappy parts, but i cant say its any worse than someplace like brooklyn or dc. there are really nice areas and there are really bad areas. just like your city.
she looked lots of places for school. but if you cant spend 2k on rent (new york) or live in nowhereville (VT) or move across the country (portland) then albany fits the bill nicely. by the way, out of those of you that hate this town, how many of you have been here for more than 24 hours? i also cant believe that i spawned a damn agrument thread by simply asking who lives in this city... |
no no. i dont mean i'm sorry you're moving to albany because it has bad parts, i mean that because its boring and every time i go it rains alllllll day, night, next day, clears up for five minutes that night, rains some more for another week... and so on.
don't get me wrong, have fun there, go out, meet people... i just would never live there. ever. |
ALBANY SUCKS! good luck, i spent the 1st 18 years of my life there and made a break for it as soon as i could. there are some cool kids there still. check out some of the bars on lark st. also ride the bike trail along the hudson river, it starts at the end of state st(fun hill to bomb down). check out the kids from the Shelter skatepark, a lot of them ride bikes as well as skate.
good luck and stay away from the mall and arbor hill. |
crossgates mall is awesome!
not really. i grew up just outside of albany, and really the only thing to do there was bike and skateboard. there are these huge tunnels in the basement of suny albany. we used to sneak in there to skate when it rained. they were smooth cement and actually had hills. they went around the perimeter of the main square with the fountain in it. Good luck in finding anything fun to do. you can always drive to NYC. |
suny tunnels were so much fun. -10 degrees with two feet of snow on the ground, sneeking in there, awsome.

Glad everyone here hates Albany. Stay out, keep my parking open and my roads clear. Or are you the baginas who run lights and make life tough for me?
I live on Lark, btw. May or may not ride CM this month, haven't decided yet. Oh, and just so you know, go to Klarsfeld Cyclery on Central instead of the Downtube. **** the Downtube. |
albany has a cm?

At any rate, for the haters the Albany area is okay. There are some nice rides outside of the city and we have fewer mass murderer's than Portland. It's not paradise but could be much worse. I didn't like it when I first moved here but I'm slowly learning what's going on and there are a few things to do. It's not a nice place to visit but a better place to live. |
CaptHij It's on Rt 5 across-ish from Colonie Center. It's now called CK Cycles, but I think the sign still says Klarsfeld. Tiny little blue building next to a VW mechanic, blink twice and you'll miss it. It's owned by an RPI professor. Nice guys. I ought to ask them if they need a counter girl.
I try to shoot for pre-dawn rides for pure cycling. You don't see a lot of fixed around here because the ups and downs are in-****ing-sane. Try getting one up People's Ave in Troy and you'll see what I mean! Pure nightmare. Oh, and Schenectady's roads are ass. Sorry. Yesterday morning I bicycled three miles out to a small lake surrounded by wildflowers and trees full of songbirds to watch the sun come up. I think the haters would be bored in the middle of an acid-fueled orgy at the first Woodstock in the middle of the Hendrix set. You make your own fun, dickholes, and if your area's boring? Guess what, it means YOU'RE boring because you make the scene. |

Albany has always treated me well when I visit...
|
WTF, why's everyone hating on Albany? A heck of a lot better than western NY and the Southern Tier, and not as stupidly expensive as the Catskills and south. My wife did her masters at SUNY Albany (when she was my fiance), and I always enjoyed visiting.

Oh crap, this isnt what I wanted to hear. I have previously excaped Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse but it seems as if life is sucking me back to Albany/Saratoga Springs within the next 6 months. My old lady got a really good set up out there so I may be joining her. Everyone says it sucks and that its a very homogeneous area but I plan to make the most of it. Bring up the bikes, the race car, and buy a motorcycle and try to get over all the attention I will be getting yet avoid being arrested. Ah well, if you do move up there at least you will have someone thats down to ride ANY time.
