Bikes: DW

you should scream at the pedal until it cries and demand it calls the police and then hang around for an hour and a half to make sure the pedal gets a ticket

what happened? cornering?

the only time i've ever been unseated was by striking the curb when a car was about to hit me. that was no fun... well maybe a little fun until i hit the ground.

The worst accident I ever had was pedal strike. I feel like ever since then I've held something back on curves. Guess I'm just a shook one...

Only times I've fallen due to peddle strike are when I've hit a tall curb. Luckily, I've managed not fall the 6 or so times I've hit while taking a turn too fast.

Happened to me in the first week or riding my bike... thought I could flick the bike through a right turn into my driveway like my mountain bike... no deal. Smashed up the front wheel, got some rash on my arm and hip, and didn't get to do the triathlon that day.

yea...I was leaning right hard on a corner that was actually somewhat banked (and a bit gravelly)... I thought the slope of the road would give me clearance, but I overestimated....anyways, I pedal struck then the rear of the bike slid out hard to the left, and I tried to compensate (as I usually do on skids) by turning a quick left, but I was going so fast that turning left kinda just stopped the bike and I went flying over the bars...had a moment of airtime, shoulder hit first and then rolled

I wonder how the fall might have been different had I not tried to straighten out

Bikes: many.

The last time there was a peddle strike, we couldn't get bread for a week.

I have a fear of one day getting cought between a cab and a curb, hitting the curb with my pedal and getting thrown into the path of a car. curbafobia i think.

Bikes: unknown make TT bike, fixed; Romet Sport, gone; titanium Pinarello gone;Colnago with Campy C-Record/Super Record,on it's way; Funny Gianni Motta; Buehler track, Polrad track chrome; titanium MTB on 28'', fixed; Tri Wheeler, fixed

My first pedal strike was today. I tried to pass between a speed bump and a curb - usually I lean the bike towards the middle of the road to avoid the hit, this time I didn't and I hit the curb- no biggie as I was riding slowly, having my kid in a tow.

Bikes: a bunch.

The last time I did it was on the inside curb of a roundabout, which I cut just a wee bit too close.
Managed to ride through it though. My back wheel must have hopped about 5". The only damage was that I effed up the adjustment screw on my SPD.

I would only post if you where doing something really stupid and obnoxious when you crashed.

like say you where running a red without slowing down and a car came so you had to "swerve with traffic" and then you caught your pedal and fell and your bike got run over.

Just going too fast and losing traction or clipping a pedal happens to everyone and doesn;t make you a jackass.

What is this "Man up!" I've seen?

Also, how big a deal is pedal strike in normal turns? When I was first starting riding, I struck my pedal even on a road bike, but now I don't do that, but how is it once you're fixed? I'm concerned I won't be able to have as much fun turning as I used to cause I won't be able to go so steep.

It's slightly tougher to avoid on a fix, since you can't just stop pedalling and pull up the inside pedal. But it (for most folks), only happens when they have a brain fart or something like that. Totally avoidable. Just like endos for the braked riders out there.
