Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

just went clipless!!!

WEIRD!!! but thanks to my LBS (Main Street Cycles in Santa Maria, CA) they hooked me up with a pair of shoes for $15!!! ive had some pedals for a while because i wanted to try clipless but didnt want to pay out the butthole for a pair of shoes. last weekend they had a parking lot sale and today they still had stuff left over and marked **** down even more. they also hooked me up with a pair of tires that would have cost me $50, i just paid 20 for them. plus these guys are super rad. and they dont make me feel stupid.

clipless is super rad, and won't make you feel stupid until your first 0mph crash. but its still way worth it. (my new shoes get here tomorrow!)

the looks people are going to give you when you flail your arms and not your legs when you tip over in traffic are more hilarious than falling over.

what's always stuck with me was that you can feel the tipping point. you're fine... you're fine... leaning a little bit, but you're still ok.... oh ****, that was it wasn't it, i'm going over... yep, here comes the ground.

and yes, you have time to think all that at a reasonably slow pace before you hit the ground.

The worst is when you clip out one foot, then accidentely lean the opposite way. It's pretty much impossible to get your other foot out and brace yourself, so everyone just sees a cyclist standing there and they suddenly fall over.

^^it is hilarous. I do it while trackstanding in front of cars. first I look all cool and zen and posengerish. then I suddenly fall like a ******bag and scramble to get my bike from in front of the cars that have suddenly started moving.

What kind of pedals are you running? For curiosity's sake.
