the new bic pen trick

last night my friend had his bike stolen when it was locked up to a street sign. this is not an original idea, but it is timeless. pipecutter on!

i only ask because most street signs here aren't cylindrical and wouldn't lend themselves to pipe cutters.

They had to have cut the lock.
Those hand held pipecutters only open to about 1".

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

don't follow leaders...

Ain't that where you take a Bic Round Stick pen, remove the plug on the end of the barrel and use the empty barrel as a "key" for Kryptonite U-locks?

only would have worked if it was the old style key. the round key that looked like it belonged to a vending machine. kryptonite now uses flat keys.

No silly.
The bic pen trick is where you use a bic pen to pop the eye balls of the guy you catch stealing your bike.
It has to be a bic because the shaft is flexible enough not to snap when the tip stikes the occular bones.

I think it is highly unnecessary to penetrate all the way through the the occular bones. Talk about overkill..sheesh!

However, thanks for the enlightenment! That gives me an idea...CF pocket protectors for Bic pens! I'll make million$$$.

[QUOTE=sashae]1> Stab rider in neck with pen

jail fight!

it was a round stop sign post. fat. they make all sizes of pipe cutters. and they are very quiet. you can cut the lock off a frame in the privacy of your own home.. take your bike everywhere with you. don't carry a lock. if you can't bring your bike in, you don't need to go there. lv

i remember when i lived in san fran in 99, they had just put parking meters on a bunch of the streets in the hills near UCB. kids were super pissed, and i went to a friends co-op house and there was a pile of about 15 parking meter tops. so yeah, they can definitely be cut by your average joe

i think about this now and then. the stuff that i lock to is generally easier to cut than the lock i use.
