First Conversion: Day 0
So my new build is gonna be a roadie conversion. I just got this bike from my roommate. It's an old Cannondale SR400. I think its a 1986. The bike is a lot more janky than the pics show. Talk about tore up! I just stripped it. The frame, fork, stem, bars, and cranks were all salvageable. Had to rubbish the wheels.
I haven't decided b/w fixed v. singlespeed yet. I'll have to get an ENO hub for the vertical dropouts. I think I'll probably keep the paint as is and build up some tangerine orange Deep Vs. Or maybe the chocolate browns? That would be fly. Gonna go with a longer stem and a decent seatpost/saddle.
Anyway, its gonna be fun. Any suggestions?

I might be crazy, but I just love the look of that frame! I have a thing for white bikes in general, but this one is super lovely with the nice flowing weld/brazing.
All the other parts are somewhere between passable and disgusting, but that's ok cuz you'll throw them away anyway. I hope that the dent in the chainstay is factory-made, though, or not a dent.
As to suggestions... If you're willing to shell out for an ENO, it sounds like a great idea as it gives you the choice to go fixed or ss any time you like. I'd say try ss first, then experiment with fixed.
I've never been a fan of the deepvees, but that's another story.

I have a Cannondale roadie from that time period. Yes, that's how the chainstays are supposed to look. The dropouts are the chunkiest, ugliest things ever. The ride is funand rather tight/responsive, but the whole bike will beat the living **** out of you over a long time.

Well since the bike is basically free, I figure its OK to pay for some decent wheels and shell out for an ENO hub. But I might just end up playing gear-ratio musical chairs for the chain tensioning, instead. We'll see.
