i drive a nissan sentra and care more about my bicycles. no guy with a fancy car will ever impress me.

Ms. Pink, unfortunately you are in the minority of a minority, by being a female in BF, by not being intimidated to not post by the sexist males on BF, you ride a bike, outside, with two wheels ( think Johnny G), and you ride a fix.

If only more women had your opinion, global warming would slow down or stop. " Oh, you have a car, I'm not interested. " even die hard car nuts would be riding a Trek after enough lonely nights.

But people, for the most part, like gratuitous displays, either wealth or the appearance of wealth ( like cars, houses, clothes, bling..), or flesh.

I'm a car guy and flip flop between caring about cars and bikes more. Everytime I do an autox or track day I go back to being obsessed with cars. Then the other 99% of the time I'm thinking about bikes. I have a lot of friends that are into cars, that are actually more into bikes now. Specifically one friend who's a team chief for a world challenge team, and has all sorts of sick cars. He actually rides his bikes more than he touches his cars, it's pretty crazy.

What are the widest tires that can fit on it? I'm assuming something like 23/25, but maybe someone's managed bigger (I have dreams of cross tires and path racing).

I thought I read 28s could fit. If that's the case, knobbies would be a no.

It'd be pretty hard to beat a grand, I'd imagine.

ive called a few different places and asked "your" question and ive got around the same estimate everyplace i called. 900-1100 dollars for cheap parts + frame.

But a BK definitely deserves more than "meh" parts.

Still need rims, spokes, stem, bars, headset, seatpost, saddle... that stuff adds up. Even with a discounted gruppo it would run over $1000.

If you went bottom-of-the barrel (bulletproof cranks, etc.) I bet you could get it rolling for $800. But you might as well get a tricked out IRO for that price.

I went to the LBS and bought a San Jose yesterday, also for a commuter, in great part because of comments here. I'm still putting on the fenders, lights, etc, so I haven't had a chance to ride it much, but I think I'm going to really like this bike. The funky animal print seat is getting swapped out, though. :) (It'll go on my early 1970s Dawes SS conversion, which is donating it's Selle Italia SLK to the Bianci.) I also swapped the stock plastic pedals for some pre-SPD Dura-Ace pedals. I'm seriously thinking about flipping the stem around.

Is this the same frame every other company sells under their brand?
It's sold as a singlespeed, but it comes with a flipflop hub.

The Lager looks like a Fuji Track with wacky cranks and formula hubs.

The Draft is Hi-Tensile steel! Wow! And no-name (less no-name than formula) hubs and everything else. Truly a notch above the GMC Denali.

Fetish Position vs. other aluminum frames?!
 

I was recently looking into getting an aluminum frame, but like most of us, am on a budget. I searched the topic and found little in the way of info. I'm wondering why this frame is so much cheaper ($200 from what i understand) than a pista concept frame for example? The only complaints I really heard were that the welds were ugly, which don't really both me.

A couple of people also said to just spend an extra $50 and get an IRO Mark V which was weird to me, because i currently ride a Mark V and while its treated me great, i'm looking for something that is lighter, and has a more compact traditional track geometry, and the Fetish Position seems to perfectly fit those criteria.

Any clues or suggestions?!

I've been riding a Position for about 6 mths, it's a decent frame. Standard US design with overseas fab work. As people have said, the welds aren't great (cosmetically), but what can you expect from budget aluminum. Ride is nice and stiff, handling is precise (I'm using the Fetish CF aero fork), and the price is right. I've been happy with it.
It is not, however, super light. I believe they stuck with thicker gauge tubing to keep the stiffness up (and make welding easier). Fully built I'm around 17lbs (with typical mid-end parts and a front brake). Not sure where the other budget Al falls in.

Hi this is my first post.

I am thinking about buying a fixed wheel road bike. And I have narrowed my choices down to two models.

1. REDLINE 9.2.5
2. CAYNE UNO
3. Fuji Track (Bike comes with no brakes, will put one on).

Basically I am OUT OF SHAPE 38 year old, I have a GT mountain bike at least 20 years old. I don't use it that much cause it is so slow (even though I tricked it out, put on a 50 toother, have slicks, very stream lined stem, I also put on front shocks), and it is so tough getting places. Maybe I am kidding myself, but I thought if I get a Road bike I would use it more often. I want to get fixed wheel, cause I will burn more calaries (you are probably laughing at me). Well you guys are the experts. So if you can give me some feed back, it would be appreciated.
