As suggested above:get cheap road drops first, then flip n' chop later. The road drops will give you plenty different positions but they're usually not as pretty as track drops(IMHO). Moustache bars are a love it/hate it kinda thing. They used to look too goofy to me (and too wide) until I saw what a really good rider can do with 'em. After the first bar you'll figure it out.

i enjoy these so far. i don't like risers, too upright. i'm down with flats, but for long periods, they're not the best for my wrists. these, on the other hand, are totally fine all day, every day.

Ten buck Cinelli road bar chop, came out very easy to use.. with Riser you can get a lot of side pulling/pedaling power.. or flip it to bull horn in pursuit position.

I got $9 Haro risers and couldn't be happier. Then traded all my old bars to friends that work in bars for free drinks. It's a win/win.

And more on-topic... settling on a comfortable width is a really good first step towards making sure your bar setup is properly dialed in. There seems to be a general tendency to buy the narrowest pista bars available and stick them on the steepest drop stem available. While this certainly doesn't work for me, it does look nice. I doubt any set of bars - regardless of shape - will be particularly comfy if the width isn't working for you.

Anyhoo, it might behoove you to bring your bike to a shop that has experience fitting riders and get someone you trust to watch you ride. Everything is interconnected on a bike, and pretty much any style of bar can be made comfortable if your stem length, saddle height/position/fore/aft/etc, bar width, crank length, etc, are all working together to put you in a comfortable position.

That said, you're going to be hard pressed to beat the comfort of ergo road drops with brake hoods.

As long as you don't buy super exotic bars or NJS bars you can pretty much try em all out under 60 bucks or so.

I was using a riser, but I am using a track drop now. A mustache bar would be better for me, and I have the setup, but I went back to track drop again. ... Help me, I cannot go back to the normal people with risers and horns.

you either love 'em or hate 'em~ i ride 1" risers for street use but i think if i were to race i'd switch over to some nice drops track or road~

get different bars and switch them for different purposes~

i.e.
Risers - downtown cruise'n
Bullhorns - Alleycats and long distance riding (for resting your arms on)
Drops - for sprinting~
