Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Velodrome help? [pic]

Just have a question about a fairly local velodrome. Why does the sides look so steep?!? Is this just the picture, or is like that in real life. Other velodromes do not look as steep. I read the bank was 33. BTW this is the Baton Rouge velodrome, which ive never been to. I would like to ride it one day, but I am a little scared!

33 degrees is nothing.. it might be scary through your first.. maybe second turn.. then youd realize the bike is fine and thats that

when you ride it.. start low.. and work your way up with each turn

and also.. thats a super wide angle lens doing funny stuff.. just look at the light poles.. it wont look that steep in person

Like sloppy said, 33 isn't much to be worried about. It will be a little daunting at first, but just keep your speed going and you'll be find. Look ahead in the turns when you start out just doing laps. As you are entering a turn be looking halfway through it. Initially, you will just be doing laps, but eventually you begin to feel the track and it's like racing on flat ground. Then you get addicted. There is no feeling like chopping the third turn on a 44 degree track.

hey i go there all the time. its a blast. its 333m around which is longer than some other velodromes. (most are like 250 or 200)thats why it might look bad but the slope really isnt terrible. ive never had trouble with pedal strike. that picture is kinda old and now theres a skatepark in the middle. you can only go there to ride during specific times.

Monday: 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - Noon
Sunday: 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

the other times are reserved for the skateboards.

Man that one looks big compared to the one closest me (Velodrome at Bloomer Park, SE Michigan). 33 is gentle, try 44 or 45.. that's where I fell and skinned a patch on my arm. Now I know why people shave their limbs

that track isn't very steep compared to the one I go to https://www.forestcityvelodrome.ca/
It's the shortest track in the world at a length of 138 meters.

Keep those pictures coming, nice! I'm starting to plan my first trip to my local Velodrome Brian Piccolo. I think the velodrome is made for the kind of riding I enjoy. Those pictures are getting me going.

50 degrees. The suck you feel at the bottom of the track is pretty crazy going through the turns. Good times.
