Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? "You'll Only Need One!"

Destroyed an IRO chainring in 3 months, some of the teeth are about to break off. I don't know if this is a normal rate for wrecking a chainring so fast... So I found another chainring (42T, the IRO was 46T) because I was curious about spinning a little bit more, and I immediately noticed a difference- I feel like I can control the bike so much more and it's easier to accelerate, but I feel so much slower overall. It's like Super Mariokart and changing from Bowser to Yoshi, with just 4T difference.

Changing to me was a good idea. Unless you're in battle mode.

(i think that was the dumbo race! and chombo chimed in right above me! small world). 4 teeth is a lot...i just jumped up 10 teeth...you can imagine what that did...spinning is great...but i agree on the top end...learn to spin faster!

My conversion I just sold was about 43x16, and I am thinking about getting a smaller cog for the new one. Any recommendations on a good size to step up to? I hate not being able to ride as fast as I like, and currently, I don't really have a problem with starting up.

I loved my 46x15 ratio... but IRO cranks aren't a recommendation of mine...

I think I'm going to stick with my 42x15 for a bit, it makes me want to take off the front brake. In doing so, I want some shiny road bars to go with...I have a chrome fork, seatstays and chainstay. I currently have Nitto B-123s wrapped up with my front aero brake, and I absolutely hate them...not comfortable, not recommended at all. Any suggestions?

I have unmounted Cinelli Alteras, but they don't fit the stem I have...I wish they made those chromed out. Ultimately, I need a bolt-on face quill stem (5 degree rise) to go with my Altera bar so I can ride them. I can't give them away (nitto b-123) on craigslist, I've been trying for a month!

i've been wanting to go 47x17 for the mucho skid patches, but it's only 2" taller than my 44x16 that i'm running now. and since i don't skid all that much it's kind of a moot point. i really like 44x16 though. i ran my commute a week on it and my average comfy cruising speed was ~17mph and i could still hit ~24 if i had to. according to the computer my top speed for that week was just over 26. but i'm sure it just touched it and then i got tired

73.3" for 47-17 and 72.9" for 44-16. i'd do it.

The word Chombo can't exist in Japanese (there is no independent "m", it must be followed by a vowel) but perhaps something similar does.

i probably will when i upgrade my drivetrain to 1/8. it doesn't make sense to me to spend money on that little of a change and keep the 3/32 gears.

You're the first person I've heard of breaking an IRO chainring like that. I want to see some pictures.

i'm not a fan of the iro chainrings, but the crankarms are pretty nice for the money

I'm still using the IRO crankarm, just with a Shimano 42T chainring I found... I was given a blue anodized 45T Campagnolo chainring, but until I get the tiny chainring bolts for it, I can't use it. I'm trying though!
