My 1st conversion

Old Raleigh frame stripped and painted. Overhauled the headset, new 73x110 BB, Sugino crankset, Velocity wheelset with Formula hubs, Tektro front brake, Performance stem and saddle, Nashbar seatpost, bullhorns and brake lever. Track cog should be here tomorrow or Saturday so all I need to do is add it and the chain and I'm good to go. running a 48x15.

Merry giving her 'rub' of approval;

Props for a wonderful recycle. I think my favorite ride of all time was a Raleigh 10 speed. I'll never forget how smooth it was through dips. Enjoy yourself. Jot

Well if the cat approves, the bike must be awesome. Cats don't like crappy conversions.

My cat likes my crappy conversion, but then, she is kind of a dumb-ass. Adorable and sweet as can be, but a dumb-ass none-the-less.

is that one of those new invis-align chains? sweet!

(yes, i know you said you needed to add a chain, but when i was settin up my brakes and didn't have the cable hooked up, I just said that the braces company invis-align was making brake cables now and thats why you couldn't see it. nice conversion, cute cat, make sure he/she/it doesn't rub its face in the spokes when youre riding)

73mm. Its an old Raleigh that had their 26tpi. Measured out the BBshell 73mm on the nose. Bought a new 73x110 and then took a worn out 73 that I had and 'retapped' the threads. Basically go in some, back out go in some more, back out. Took like 20-30 minutes but then the new BB went in nice and easy. Don't know why Raleigh would not comply with the 24tpi like the rest of the world until almost the turn of the century.

It's not something I'd do, but hey, if it works, it works. Good luck with it.

Since raleigh made every part on the bikes themselves, they just didn't have to comply with other standards. Thats why some of the higher end frames used regular english threading. They wanted to make the frames compatible with campy and huret parts. For the lower end frames all components were made in-house. I would definitely use loctite on the bb cups if i were you. What you call "retapped" some would call "damaged." It will probably hold find, but the blue loctite will lessen the chances of it loosening.
