pumps?

what kind of pumps do you keep in your bags? I got a flat on the way to work this morning and all I had was a trek mini-pump. Piece of crap. Any recommendations as to what I should start packing?
thanks

+ aliens on the Road Morph

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/images/topea...gauge%2006.jpg

Length of tube, foot stand, etc...

Gets up to 120 fairly easy.

shants 09-22-06 11:33 AM

i rock a co2 jam when i'm commuting and just out and about.

dutret 09-22-06 11:36 AM

the road morph is big though. The smaller topeaks or a co2/hand pump.

hyperRevue 09-22-06 11:37 AM

Just about 13 inches long.

shants 09-22-06 11:44 AM

there's the mini road morph, which is a bit shorter.

its not big, it fits in any standard size bag, messenger or otherwise. it also mounts to your frame if you like that.

I have a Peakini Master Blaster and it works fine...I still need to use a floor pump eventually, but it's enough to get me back on the road and it fits well in my bag or even in my jersey pocket.

Yinzer 09-22-06 12:13 PM

the road morph! it is kinda klunky... but isnt that one of the reasons we all carry those huge ass bags?

marqueemoon 09-22-06 12:24 PM

I have a craptastic Blackburn in the bag and a Silca Pista floor pump at home.

curlybro 09-22-06 12:30 PM

+9 on the road morph. That thing could replace a floor pump if you don't ride tubulars or really high pressure clinchers.

Retem 09-22-06 12:37 PM

I carry a old hurricaine pump at the bottom of my bag and a co2 inflator I found I forget to replenish my co2 supply hence the pump

get co2 inflator and extra cartridges they work very well and fast

sers 09-22-06 12:44 PM

i carry the road morph with the built in gauge.

SingleSpeeDemon 09-22-06 12:46 PM

I catch alot of sh*t for having these in my bag, but they just don't work with clips and straps.

I also love the topeka road morph. Flexible hose, built-in gauge, foot pedal, and can get to about 110 psi before it starts to suck.

dylandom 09-22-06 01:45 PM

i have a blackburn mini pump, it's like 12 inches. it's a pain to keep pumping after a min though but what ever, i rather have that then walk home.

Flatted this morning on the Queensboro Bridge. Patch kit, but no pump. Woops!

Stopped at Bike Heaven and bought a new tube (might as well while I am there) and the Road Morph. Great pump! (though I have only used it once)

I've got me a Blackburn something or other as well as a CO2 one as well. I buy my cartridges from Walmart as they've got them in bulk for all those air guns they sell. Definitely a lot cheaper than what they sell them for at a bikeshop. I find though that a tube filled up with my CO2 pump loses air faster than one done with a hand pump.

I carry a cheapie Serfas BS50 and have a Soma Dragonbreath floor pump at home.

Getting up around 100-120 with BS50 is a struggle sometimes, but it can always get me plenty of pressure to make it to a bike shop or back home. Most importantly, it was only $10 on sale.

I flatted once with neither tube nor pump in my bag. Fortunately, there was a bike shop nearby, so I purchased both and went on my way. The pump I bought on the shops recommendation - a Blackburn KMP-1 Kamikaze. It is 11 1/4 inches long, no hose, but very compact. The biggest drawback with this type of pump is that it's hard to get much pressure into the tire. I've learned to work around this by propping the rim against a curb so that the curb serves as a support for the pump head. You can steady the pump and put your full weight behind the handle. I can consistently reach 120 - 125 psi using this method. I cannot reach the 145 psi I like to run, but, at 125 psi, riding on after a flat is not much of a compromise - way better than riding 20 miles at 80 psi.

sorry about the flat...but hearing the qbb makes me miss the city so much. used to ride in every day from 72nd ave/austin st. to 61st/madison; later to 22nd/parl; later to 58th. there is nothing like riding the city...

bigbikerbrian 09-24-06 12:38 AM

co2 all the way.
