polishing cranks with a dremel?

Anybody ever do this? I've got Sugino 75s, which I don't think are clear anodized/coated.

I was going to polish with a felt wheel and dremel polishing compound.

Any tips?

i did this a couple of weeks ago to my Paul chainring and a nitto pearl stem. i'd go get a better compound than the dremel stuff. the key is to not use too much compound, but to freshen it up frequently.

I did this while working on my Bianchi Nuovo. I polished all the parts with either q-tips and metal polish, or a felt wheel on my dremel. Use a low speed and wear safety glasses (it tends to spray metal polish around). Also, concerning metal polish, a little dab will do you. I got crazy with the stuff and had it all over my work bench and myself before it was all said and done.

Mother's wax has always treated me well after a season when my cranks are really gunked up. I don't know if it's appropriate or not, but I've had great results, and that's without motorized aid of any kind.

i might be wrong, but i think the silver sugino 75's have some sort of silver anodizing or powdercoat over the actual aluminum. . . otherwise you'd be able to see the "grain" of the metal like you can on other polished cranks.

sugino 75's are clear anodized. you can either deanodize them using an ajax and water solution, or easyoff oven cleaner, and then polish them, or polish through the anodizing (more time consuming).
