That's right, y'all - Jack Taylor curved tube tandem.

The Raleigh Pro track doesn't get a lot of attention on ssfg, but I absolutely love these bikes. Must...not...bid. Girlfriend...will...leave.

Maybe I'll just click the ridiculous BIN, go into credit card debt and have done with it.

jinx4 11-01-06 11:47 PM

not to play devils' advocate, but this guy (and bike) was down in denver at our local velo-swap last weekend...I can tell you from a first hand look, it's a really nice bike.

I had "not even close" money in my wallet and was still trying to figure a way to justify it...with a 30" inseam. A year from now, I wouldn't have missed the money...but I still wouldn't be tall enough to stand over the bike.

One of my all time favorite bikes. Right next to the olympic model.

If that were anywhere near my size, I would have already bid on it.

Just out of sadistic inquisitiveness, how much was he asking in Denver (my whole family is there--my sister picked up a very nice Serotta at the swap for about half what it was worth)?

Edit: Or masochistic?... Sado-masochistic

jinx4 11-02-06 09:45 AM

I think about the same...maybe 1300? With the cost/risk of ebay I could see an extra franklin tacked on.

ach. I think this is my dream bike. Perfect size, perfect parts, perfect frame. ach. I always do this. Every bike is my dream bike.

jinx4 11-02-06 12:48 PM

think of it this way...you most likely couldn't piece it together for that, Bayliss did the touch ups, and as you said it's the perfect size. Never feel guilty about bikes. Buy it, ride it, love it, and if and when the next "dream bike" pops up, then pass it on for the next person to love. No regret. BUT what if you buy it, and it is THE dream bike...then you have it for your mortal days, and never have to wonder. Think of the money you'll save buying all the wrong bikes...

cripes, a guy just rolled into our shop and ordered a $2800 set of wheels. They will NEVER see the love that Raleigh has...and will get.

my friend and i were at that veloswap(denver) and he got this exact frame for 120 in a size 54. the one he got was beat up as hell, but it's still nice...at least i think it's nice.

muftek 11-02-06 08:35 PM

i prefer beat up paint in fact. no premium to pay, and you also dont feel bad about riding it all the time, no need to "baby" it.

Pardon me if this was posted before. Thoughts? It looks beat, but I could be wrong.

if that goes for more than $250, it is proof that everyone should just die.

sashae 11-03-06 11:19 AM

That frame is /jarringly/ beat, and exceedingly rusty. I wouldn't touch it without looking at the interior condition of the tubes, as the bottom bracket looks rotten as hell. Yikes.

It will, but the "lucky winner" will pay dearly for their stupidity. That was once a beautiful frame before someone dipped it in a solution of saltwater and acid and hung it up to dry. I haven't seen many frames that rusted, not even stuff beat to **** and left behind a barn. If they are very lucky a paint strip and repaint will reveal no structural damage, and a couple hundred bucks later they will have a sound frame with some nasty ugly pitting under the paint. Of course they'll want some 3Rensho decals so everyone can know how l33t3 they are. So add another $150 for the decals and application. lessee here... cary the 4... a $600 $200 frame.
