Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

50x15 gear is 3.3333333333333333:1
50x15 with or with out brakes on the street = knee problems sometime down the road.

OP, you're probably going to need a new chainring and cog too.

I use the cheap coloured KMC 1/8" chains.. According to my logs, the first one I used lasted me 4,553.20miles (7,327.67km) - those was mostly summer (though a fair amount of rain). The one after that which went through a pretty wet/icy/snowy winter lasted 1,812miles (2,916.45km).

I don't mind the quick go-through rate, they cost me $8USD and do the job just fine.
