Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

it looks like a giant cadex 980. they are notorious for failure at the lugs due to UV damage.

other then that they are very comfortable and noodley.

it has a suicide hub... i think for 200 bucks your friend could probably find an actual fixed rear wheel and a decent steel frame.

Bikes: Marinoni track

It looks like my old Vitus...I know they built frames under several brands.
Mine rocked...but in retrospect it was a flexy frame.

I had a similar specialized allez, it was like riding a rubber band.

Bikes: Steelman eurocross, Surly CrossCheck, IRO Rob Roy...

I'd spend an extra 100 bucks and get a KHS URBAN X for a winter beater. It's not a fixed gear... it's not a piece of $hit either.
