hubs

Any benefit to larger vs. smaller front hubs? Do the front and rear hubs need to match, or is that preferable for any reason?

are you refering to flange diameter? large flange hubs are supposed to be laterally stiffer, but its basically just a style issue.

larger vs. smaller... High flange hubs used to be used to increase wheel stiffness. Shorter spokes = a stiffer wheel. But most people say that modern methods have pretty much negated this, and low flange hubs are lighter weight, so nowadays it's basically a question of style and personal preference.

Matching hubs won't make your bike go faster, and it won't slow it down either. They may, however, increase the resale value of the wheelset/complete bike.

quit lying to the kid, large flange hubs add 20 horsepower to your bike.

I like the look of look of high flange rear with a low flange front. Makes it look like a roadster or something and actually makes practical sense from a spoke-replacing perspective.

Match that with machined front rim and non machined rear rim and you have a full on custom ultimately practical wheelset that may be hard to sell (I'd buy it though)
