What's the connection between Surly bikes and Surly Brewing? Why can't I get Surly beer at my lbs?

Looks like you can't get it outside of Minnesota. https://www.surlybrewing.com/maps.php. Seems like an ok selection for a microbrew.

their logo is way better than the bike companies'. that would make a great looking headbadge.

No connection, though when they were starting out, they didn't know that there was a bike company with the same name. A lot of the guys from Surly are home brewers, so they were cool with it. Part of the deal to use the name I think was that they had to donate beer on some of the drunk rides that we have around here, which they've been doing. Even making special batches for some of them, like the Beermuda Triangle. Their brewery was one of the stops, and they'd made up a Peace Coffee beer (I know it was at least coffee, and PC is local and delivers by bike, so it would make sense...)

They just started canning (unveiled as free cans at the Homey Fall Fest SS MTB ride last month) so you might be able to get it outside of MN soon. At least, you could drive here and leave with it without it being a growler or a keg.

Random tidbit - the brewer Todd used to brew down at the Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown. I used to drink a ton of his beer down there. I had no idea the connection until we did beermuda, when he came up and asked where I'd disappeared to. I thought there was something familiar about the taste...

Surly universally has the ugliest logo and decals ever.
Is there anyone who likes them?

They're like some early 90s LA metal band.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Iro is an awesome company but I think that logo is worse than the surly.
