i had an unfortunate accident this morning that left me walking me bike home. the rim is bent and when i tried bending it back, the seam (not sure if thats the correct term) started coming apart.

so i need a new rim and some new nipples (the machine that built the wheel seems to have destroyed the tops of some of them - and i imagine its a good idea anyways). should i also get new spokes? they all look fine to me. the hub has little grooves where you can tell which way the spoke came out. is the hub re-useable? if not, i have an extra already.

my question is, should i look for a rim and nipples (and spokes)? or should i just look for a front wheel? tony has this rim for $29 + $12 estimated shipping which seems like it would make a good replacement.

i would be looking for black with a machined sidewall and high flange hubs.

if anyone has the stock raleigh rush hour wheelset sitting in their garage, i would love to have the front wheel, but i don't see that happening.

Maybe it is just me, but I do not reuse spokes, especially with crashed wheels. Some of the spokes are bent, and fatigue life isn't something you want to figure out on an emperical basis.

If you do reuse the hubs, make sure to lace them in the same pattern ( 3x, 2x, radial) or you are asking for your hub flanges to crack.

But considering the rim plus spokes, nipples and labor, you are looking at somewhee between 50-100 dollars, depending on quality.

You might just want to buy a new wheel and have a extra hub.

Oh, and buy a stock rush hour set if you can, rears usually tear up more quickly than fronts.

New rim, spokes, nipples.
You might want to check the bearings on a crashed hub.
Also check the fork, headset, headtube for deformation.

if you're changing rims, then you're likely going to have to get new spoke lengths anwyay
