Pre-commute winter bike.

Discs + drop bars = good.

Cool bike.

I've always liked the look of hope brakes a lot, I think it's the gold and black combo + the lever reservoir, with "HOPE" written on it, i likee

Taken this morning. Couldn't ride in the 12-14" of snow, so I had to walk...

I would love to use my huge '70's Fuji, but the fork and rear triangle got re-brazed. Major wheel clearance, but not sure if it can withstand the elements. The IRO might have to pull double duty.

The only thing nice are the sealed Kona platform pedals.

Il Mitch. That bike of yours is getting quite a bit of attention. Nice ride. Show us again when it's all covered in salt and grime.

I wouldn't ride a collectors item type bike in the winter, or something with super-thin tubing. However, the frame of a bike is a lot easier to care for rustwise than, say, the wheel wells of a car. Fenders, framesaver and touchup paint are godsends in that regard. With a bit of care, riding in the winter should not significantly affect the lifespan of your frame.

Bearings and drivetrain are another matter, but those are going to be a problem on a beater as well.
