Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Seatpost - QR or no?

i'm building a fixed gear (besides the point) for mah girl and she has fallen in love with a certain Brooks; i wanted to find out from others who have $100+ saddles or saddles you don't want stolen, whether you have a QR on your seat tube or other.

i don't know yet how much routine-riding she will be doing (i.e. university) where it will be locked up outside, but general errands, casual rides and bar tours are expected.

Old bit of chain (as bike chain cog to cog) through the seat rails and down and looped through the frame. Chains are hardened metal and difficult to cut through with hand tools. The more stuff you have to take off especialy any long awkward and greasy thing like a seat post the more likely you are to say "I can't be bothered I am only popping in here for five min".

Bikes: bfssfg iro--black.

why would you ever go qr on the seatpost?
for the amount of adjusting you'll need to do it's not worth it.

Def. go with an allen bolt. And glue the opening of the bolt once the fit is dialed in. (I really should do that with mine already.)

I'm a fan of Pitlock skewers. If she's in love with her saddle, she should spend a few extra on a special set of hardware for the bike. Anything but QR, you're just asking for it.

Unless you're taking the saddle with you everytime you lock up, or you never lock up, I'd avoid the QR

You can also super glue a ball bearing in the bolt head. Adds a little extra deterrence. QR are great if you don't like keeping your stuff.

Chain thing I ment with an allen key bolt as well. The chain justs adds abit more pretection against people who walk around with allenkeys, but you have to stop some where with security. I looked in to the dog security option

but only had enough room for a Chitsu in my bag so went with a second ulock.

Bikes: a bunch.

Silcone RTV sealant in the allen bolt heads (seat post angle adjustment, and seat post binder bolt).
