Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It was local routes, and I can find out exactly what they were, but it was basically a southern California start, through all the gulf coast states, and with a finish in Georgia on the Atlantic. I believe they actually dipped the rear wheel in the ocean as a ceremonial start and the front when they finished. Pretty nifty accomplishment if you ask me.

Mmm, it's going to be like 60 degrees tomorrow. I'm looking forward to laps in Central Park, then down to Coney Island and back.

Any more suggestions for specific longer routes around NYC?

Grab your bike map and map out Shore Pkwy to Marine Park Bridge to the Rockaways and back over the other bridge into Queens, and back along Shore Pkwy.

I love going on long rides. That feeling of total decimation and that want of submitting, is a feeling that overshadows most other feelings in this world.

Hellz yea.

Bikes: 2004 titus switchblade, '96 marin rocky ridge ht ss; '91 marin rocky ridge ht (soon to be fully rigid); 2006 motobecane grand sprint; '06 bianchi pista; '83 (?) haro freestyler - neon green.

damb that makes me miss ny: trails all over the hud valley/catskills; several 5 boro rides pulling a trail-a-bike or burley (the top of the verrazano!); middle of the day laps @ central between shifts; riding various parks in queens; commuting queens to manhattan for 3 yrs; the ms ride including, if i am remembering the correct ride, the lincoln tunnel and gwb; all of it. damb.

back on topic: it's a bike...go ride. and take pics.
