ahh, the imperative form...

sweetbike 12-15-06 10:04 PM

it seems like being a hipster or being called a hipster is a bad thing? maybe there are people out there that prefer to be a hipster.

d_roche 12-15-06 10:09 PM

someone here had a quote in another hipster-bashing thread...goes a little something like this...

when it comes to fashion, follow the trend. when it comes to principles, follow yourself.

lyrical, really.

hipster is a word used by people involved in white urban youth cultures to deride other people in white urban youth cultures. simple.

I think it went more like this.

More like 3 I guess. Why chrome pistas only come out this year?

deathhare 12-16-06 10:35 PM

Go ride your bikes.
Calling out people who you think are trendy because of the bikes they ride or the clothes they bought is 1000x more trendy and pathetic than any ****ing Pista could ever be.

bobdanger 12-17-06 12:37 AM

omg i just threw up in my mouth

in my experience, hipster is a word used by people involved in white urban youth cultures to deride other people in white SUBURBAN youth cultures, who try to be "urban".

i visited a "shopping mall" in the my parent's suburbs this week. mindblowing.

those are just mallrats man, by the time **** is available to them through their (corporate) channels, it's already long been over. you can't be a hipster and be that stale. i was doing christmas shopping at the mall today... every 12 year old is in a bape all over print hoodie, bwwwwwwhahahahahahahaha.

there's another angle that i often wonder about
what about the fear of being seen as a hipster?

yeah ... yeah ... who cares what "they" think.

but when you pass another rider in the street
and you notice they're riding fixed (don't tell me you dont look)
don't you wonder what it is that they're thinking?

often I find myself "sizing up" the other rider
as if beyond our mutual appreciation of our bikes,
i could somehow understand this stranger, or know what they're about

other times, when met with a "holier than thou" glare, i know
i know that they're looking at me and saying "HIPSTER" or "POSERGER"
they really believe that they're better than me
or that they discovered fixed first

is it so bad to not want that?
is it so bad that i don't like people thinking that I'm in it for the minute?

I love my bike

My guess is that Pista is a 2004. Look at the decals. No white behind the Bianchi or world champ strips. 2003 was grey, 2002-2000 were black.

e.e. cummings at his finest

I dunno, I have the opposite experience, and try to give it to others. Saw a guy locking a red Soma Rush last night, and gave him the old "Nice bike." On the timesup ride, there were a couple of FG/SS riders, and we chatted a little about the conversion process, future plans, etc. It's nice.
