Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

do you ride fixed AND bmx?

any SSFGers ride bmx also? what do you ride?

i feel like it's a really common crossover, if only because BMXes are technically single speeds too, but maybe i'm wrong. i've noticed a lot of kids who ride track and bmx, though.

There are a lot of former teenage BMXers on this forum, same for skaters (see the Jason Lee thread). I used to ride BMX a lot, but needing to get from place to place faster than you can on a BMX got me onto geared beaters and then FG. Now that I'm getting my balance back in tune from trackstands and stuff I'm starting to pick up the bmx again to try old flatland tricks I could never do.

I recently picked up a super-cheap BMX from a kid in my neighborhood who was "more into cars now". I tool around on it and work on riding skinnies and jumping curbs. I think it helps my MTB skills more than anything, but it can't hurt.

Bikes: a bunch.

Yes.

Its a Macneil Deuce Deuce (22"), mostly Odyssey stuff (LSD cassette, 48H Hazard lites, dirt forks). The only change since that photo is that I put Suelo brakes on the back.

Its actually a touch too big for me for spinning. I'm currently awaiting my new 21.5" Seshin Megatron frame, which I'll swap all my parts over to =D

They are not meant to sit on really. Moslty they are for tricks and for standing and sprinting short distances over dirt jumps and around banked turns. Freestyle frames tend to be compact and are not meant to be comfy, but XL size BMX racing frames are long as hell and way too big for little kiddies.

I used to be heavily into BMX (Freestyle) until I went off to college and got distracted with other things. At any rate, after having got into fixed gears I'm getting interested in BMX again. Except this time I'm more into straight up BMX racing. Its like track racing, but with a way sicker course than a velodrome oval. Track racers and BMX racers have a lot in common, like being able to sprint like mad elbow to elbow.
I'd like to get a 24" cruiser and attempt BMX racing. I just bought my 3 year old a Redline micro mini with 18" wheels. BMX minis are just badass. Normal little bikes that kids learn to ride on are basically junk, but BMX minis and microminis are super tiny and amazingly light with all this high end componentry...cool stuff, and fun to work on. Hopefully, I can get him started racing in the next year or so.

BMX is a lot of fun because you can dish out so much punshiment to them, and they'll usually never break.

I need to get my old GT interceptor going again, it's been collecting rust in the garage.

I built up an old Haro Master about 12 years ago and loved it till I sold it to a mate in 2004 and he got it stolen.
I now have a Bully I got secondhand, but it wasn't so good for my commute to work being 6'1".
