Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

No the pic in post 18. Maybe the paint was being used differently. I stated that due to the dropout shot and seeing how the paint looked.

My Cinelli Super Corsa Strada paint was flush and you could see how well the paint was applied.

go with aluminum cranks, seatpost, stem and bars. Aluminum bars make a noticable difference when picking the bike up, not so much ride it.

As said above, I lot of that extra stuff can fit in a bag. Lights can be clipped on bags, which definatly helps from them getting stolen off the bike..

who cares about the paint job, you can't keep knee pads, wrist pads and a helmet on a kid that is playing one of those not-keeping-track-of-score soccer games forever. Let if get scratches, or just repaint it. I had old bar tape on my top tube to keep it from being scratched. Then I realized that I didn't care, or other parts of the bike would get scratched up while locking it in strange postions. If you don't like the paint job, just rattle can it.

Inner tube wrapped around your tubing does wonders to keep scratches off. Failing that, some creative work with scissors and electrical tape can completely hide an ugly paint job...I had an old peugot, rode like a dream but I just couldn't stand to be seen with that ugly seafoam colour scheme, and the tape held remarkably well.
