Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I think formula knees with be fine. You may want to ask what other people are using.
If you do decide to go forumla knees, might i suggest pairing them with deep-v thighs?.
I've heard nothing but good things.. Make sure you get the non machined thights cuz they look uber sexy.

I went down from 48/19 to 46/19, or, from about 68 to 65, and I made it up the hill. It was hard, but I made it. One thing I notice, though, is that it seems a little harder to slow the bike down when descending with the lower gear, unless I'm going fairly slow to begin with. On the flats, its easier to slow the bike down with the lower gear. But, going downhill I seem to pick up more spinning momentum, which seems to make it a little harder - or at least no easier - to slow down. I'm not sure if I'm imagining this, or its a real phenomenon. Anyway, I think I like the lower gear for now, because of the hills, but I'd like to go back a little higher otherwise.

If you run into any other hills like this, I recommend showing the hill your war face.

To maximize improvement and keep it fun (i.e avoiding repeats and searching out hills) use every start as strengthening. Stop at all red light and stop signs and sprint out of them.
