Old campy is the best thing about Italian bikes. Italian frames are pretty crude compared with NJS or customs, have crappy (but sometimes garishly hot) paint, and are ridiculously expensive.

That said, being able to run full campy pista is priceless.

Bikes: A few

I have two campy equiped bikes: '76 Paramount P14 with full pista group and a '73 P13 Paramount with full Nuovo Record group. I have also have some spare campy parts hanging around just in case. The other Campy is low flange hubs laced to Sun M-13II rims that were on my Schwinn Peloton (everything else was Suntour Superbe) when it was geared (now fixed).

So even when you have 2 bikes with fully campy you still need some NOS stuff laying around?

Hipsters in Chicago are starving you know

I could use some Campy crankbolts and dustcaps though. You could say I'm starving for them

As for the Campy thumb shifters not being crisp, it seems strange that someone who works in a bike shop would ride such an obviously poorly maintained drivetrain. My Centaur setup shifts up crisp, quick and solid. Much easier and more accurate than the Shimano system. Shifting one lever inboard for up and two inboard for down (or is it the reverse) is just so dumb. Thumb shifters are much better in my vaunted opinion.

This is not a matter of limit screw or tension adjustment. I simply mean that straight out of the box, the Campy mechanisms are simply not what I would call crisp. It takes a serious throw of the finger or thumb to actuate the levers. Also, while I do on occasion use integrated shifting, I'm more partial to any friction set-up over integrated. I'm not a racer and I know that when the limit screws are set, I am going to be able to shift fluidly.

These are the only "thumb shifters" I'm down with:

151 rings are on ebay all the time you know. and Fyxamatosis sells them pretty cheap as well. Thats where i got the ring for my crank. You have to wait for shipping from austrailia but i got a sugion mighty comp from them for pretty cheap and they have a good selection of pitch and Teeth as well.

well i was just saying he might not realize those are 151bcd and they were last made around 1970 and it's not going to be a simple matter of walking to your shop and picking up a ring of your preferred size..

as opposed to 144bcd which is still a current standard..

and a 151 ring will usually cost you more for all the above reasons

Guys, call me dumb... I saw the Campy Record Pista Group for $700.

Can it withstand street use or is it strictly for the "Pista"?

I'm just trying to figure out what to get... I want to bling-out one of my frames.

Some will say it can, some will say it can't. I don't ride my record hubs on the street very often, but thats probably because they are laced to Fiamme tubulars and the streets down here are easy to get pinch flats on.

.: my answer:
It is only for stock Bianchi upgrades.

you're much less likely to pinch flat a tubie than a clincher.

no, when i get pinch flats around here, i could be riding one of those all rubber no air tires from a little kids bike, and that would have flatted.

its like, 6 inch deep, four inch across, 36 inch wide 90 degree angle drops in the middle of the street sometimes. like, dude, what the **** is wrong with the streets here?

Anyways, to answer exfreewheelers question get it. Build it, if you don't like it, trade it.

What shop has it?

And also, come to the alleycat/alleykitten this Saturdya at Love Park, 3pm.

Have you ever actually pinch flatted a tubular though. Everyone knows what I think of riding them around but it's pretty damn hard to pinchflat one. I mean you can hear hear the resounding ding of ground against rim over and over without actually pinch flatting.

No, I had enough fun pinch flatting clinchers that I didn't bother going out of my way to try it.

The other reason is the bike that runs tubies is geared 50x15 and isn't drilled for a brake. Not exactly ideal to be riding every day.

I saw it here: https://www.bicycletires.com/tek9.asp...cific=jrkmhpn4

I would like to have a nice set-up as a treat to myself. But I also want something that can handle the street, since I don't believe that I'll be riding on a track.

I don't want to be afraid to do some serious road riding.
