I've used to carry my ulock in my bag, but it was very impractical. It was hassle to get it in/out of the bag when i had some packages in it.
Then I got my self krypto mini and I was carrying it in my pocket. Until I've lost it in drunken crash.
I had to come back to my regular ulock, so I bought this waist belt holster:

I think it's the best solution for carrying ulock. It doesn't get in the way when riding, you don't feel the weight of it, easy to put in/take out.
It's very popular among polish bike messengers.

I randomly got given a bumbag (fanny pack for those from the colonies) by the london traffic safety folks one day. Holds my kryptonite mini, lights, 15mm wrench, multi-tool, spoke levers plus tubes. For some reason, having the weight of my lock around my waist feels better than in my bag. I also use my abus granite steel-o-flex cable thing. mine must be the most over-locked pista in christendom, but I wanna keep it.

kryptonite evolution mini in back pocket works best for me. i wear tight pants and i don't even know its there. but its different for everyone. i wish i had a reload hip pouch just for those trips when im not wearing pants or short with pockets (but that rarely happens anyways)

and unless the pants you wear are completely different from the type i wear, i cant see how you would be sitting on the mini u-lock in your back pocket

Bikes: a bunch.

Carabiner on belt.
Easy to draw, doesn't bother me while riding.

mine goes in my panniers. yes. panniers. on a fixie.

I had a very secure frame mount at one point (many many bikes ago) and it was a PITA because I had to unlock the thing and yank the big cylinder out of the holder, before doing my regular locking stuff, then had to stuff it back in again afterward. And... I couldn't put the bike on my shoulder.

Of course, now that I come to think about it, I can't put my bike on my shoulder now either, because the panniers weigh too much. No-win here I guess

dunno, but folks have suggested using a carabiner insead of the lock when you're wearing it. so paramedics dont need to cut it off.

sounds smart to me, hope its never necessary.

Well not to derail anybody's thread but this seems to be the lock thread. I had my eye on that masterlock chandcuff looking one. The nine link one. Looks real tough. Anybody have anything to say about it?

How spendy is your bike? I'd go for a U Lock, and gauge the price of the lock in relation to how much your ride is worth. $55 dollars gets a Krypto Mini Evo, those are mighty fine locks for the price and size (it's harder to brake smaller locks by the "pry" method).

My lock weighs more than the frame.

On my first bike, I had my lock mounted to my frame until the mount came unlose and almost caused me to get into an accident. I learned my lesson. Since then, I've carried my u-lock in my bag. The only problem I have is when I take my lock out of my bag and my textbooks go everywhere.
