Tube shape and choice is. There are Al noodles and ti bikes stiffer then you probably want to ride you just have to form the tubes into the appropriate shape. AL is a great choice for a commuter or a **** weather trainer. Thick unbutted tubing can be used and will lead to a bike that is much more crash and rain proof then a steel bike of similar weight. Any stiffness issues can be overcome with slightly larger tires that will compress in the direction you want them too and not in other directions like a pencil thin steel frame. If an AL frame with the appropriate features was available to me when I built my new commuter/cross/rain bike I would have chosen it hands down.

If you are in fact a real person it's cool that you want to learn stuff just don't repeat platitudes and meaningless drivel you pick up as advice. There are plenty of people willing to spout those absurdities already. More importantly take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt and don't go repeating it as fact until you are sure it it. That applies here as well as anywhere else.

okay right you may be but all im not the only one speakin for the hour. its just funny how i am narrowed out. since he is a commuter why would he want an undrilled track geo bike that cost substantially more than the better priced one? plus why drop the most $ on a bike he may not like since it will be his 1st fixie? at least get the least expensive and work the way up. and this is a thread asking for advice like i said b4 and i dont think i should be criticized for my opinion when the op is asking for feedback. what makes your opinion more qualified than mine when he asking for folks to join in. and then when others put up the around the same opinion as me, why single me out? dont do that because of my history for "dum" ?s. if you are goin to do that then critique everyone who also put the rush hour as a choice or for that matter anything that goes against your knowledge base.

like i said i have no prob with you but dont be suck a jerk. i understand a lil why your doin what your doin but in essense your not helping me and you make yourself look arrogant. i can care less what ppl think of me or my post im just lookin for info.

just drop this cuz were both being trolls right now arguing over you not agreeing with my input. okay done.

unless you're implying steel is for old men that can ONLY ride in the park at sunset, in which case i'll get the concept to prove my youth and potency.

I'll say one thing about the Pista Concept based off of my admittedly-short experience with my aluminum fixed bike. The articles I've read about tire type, size, and pressure along with seatpost choice, saddle choice, fork choice, and bar choice making far more difference in ride harshness than the frame material itself seems to be completely true. Even the frame geometry and tubing design seems to make more of a difference than the material itself. What I'm getting at is my supposedly "harsh" Langster with 23c tires seems to have a more plush ride than my steel Surly Cross-Check with 35c tires thanks to the fork, bars, and seatpost alone. Many in the bike world seem to frown on aluminum frames just because they're aluminum frames without realizing the vertical-stiffness of all these different frames is nearly identical (lateral stiffness.. maybe not).

Also, ride all the bikes you're interested in. You may sit on one and immediately realize it feels like crap for your body dimensions.

i'm also looking at this two ways. one is, i own(and ride very often) a bianchi volpe. i love the bike, i love the ride is gives, i love the touring style/bombproofness. and having that in my first very own fixed would be really helpful. i know the rush hour isn't "touring style" but it's got it similarities.

but, it would be fun to just mess around and go crazy with the concept(or something comparable). i know the bike is MADE for the track but it's hard not to deny it would be a fun ride. i'm not concerened with scene points or impressing anybody or anything. i seriously have ONE close friend that is into bikes as well as some loose connections but the hipster aspect of wanting a concept is null and void for me.

but, again in the long run it makes more sense to get something more sturdy and practical and save getting a bike like the concept for the future when cash flow is better.

the concept is just so pretty!!!

but now ken has put another possible offer on the table involving a pretty rad langster. not my first choice but i'll look into it.

buy the concept in that case since you have another more comfy bike already just as a suggestion get a carbon seat post and a saddle with ti or carbon rails it will take some of the knocks out also double wrapping your bars helps too
