IRO Bad Choice
 

With the group buy, I used an email that had never been published, to keep it free from spam. I just use it for my bills and personal correspondences. Now I recieve this email:

IRO Cycles (Tony) has made a number of great choices to help us out. I truly thank him for this. Publishing our email addresses on the net was not one of them.

I emailed him and I got no response. Probably due to a spam filter :)

I feel there was no need to publish email addresses. Names would have been fine.

yea, posting a webpage with live/active email addresses is never a good thing. you should ask him to take it down/encrypt the email addys somehow, or make the page password acessible or something.

the main point would be that this page isnt preferable and other vendors do not do this so there is certainly a safer method

There's got to be;

1. A better title for this thread

2. A little understanding towards a guy hooking you up with a group buy not being able to respond as quickly as the internet would have you expect. I'm sure when he hears your concerns he'll simply take down the email addresses & have you reference yourselves by order# in the future or some other such similar action.

3. A better way for people in Africa to manage their money than putting it in accounts they can't reach without help from friendly North Americans! This is a terrible system!:p

I seriously doubt that IRO sold your email address to a group of spammers. This spam is one of the most prolific ones out there. They just send them to random addresses. I find it far more irritating that you jump to blame a retailer that is well thought of here.

no, a "web-crawler bot" that scours the internets for addys got addys off the iro page because they are live/active or something, well ripe for the picking by a spam bot crawler!

i'm sure iro will take down the page or encrypt the addys or something, iro is god, and everything will still be good.

noone is claiming he sold it. they are claiming he published it in an unbelievably sloppy manner especially for someone who had to get help here for his spam problems last year and should have learned a lesson.

Giving out the emails isn't good practice because I think they use email as your username. Now people are one step closer in hacking an account. Whoever is doing system analysis for iro needs a lesson in security. Seriously I doubt that will happen. But crying over spam, jeez man up, get a spam filter that doesn't suck.

IRO didn't sell the addresses, they just published a page with everyone's email on it. Spammers find it and add it to their lists.

Why on earth would you use a clean email address when ordering something online? I have a yahoo.com account for just this reason.

I have a bunch of different email addresses that I use for different things. I make sure to give the spam email address that I have to places I know will send me spam. My personal email address I give only to my friends and family.
