steel for track cranks?

i was entertaining the idea of a hollow track crank made out of reynolds 953 alloy. would a high tech steel be an impractical material for crank arms?

there have to be some trixed out steel bmx cranks out there. no idea of alloy etc.

I think your killer track ride could benefit from some ashtabula lovin'.

Not Exactly what you're looking for, but close....

I have an 80's fuji with steel 3 piece cranks. They're heavy, solid forged looking things, not really what you're talking about but a pretty extreme setup. I don't think they're any stiffer than anything else but I've never been able to feel stiffness in cranks so YMMV.
