Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? steel for track cranks?

i was entertaining the idea of a hollow track crank made out of reynolds 953 alloy. would a high tech steel be an impractical material for crank arms?

I have an 80's fuji with steel 3 piece cranks. They're heavy, solid forged looking things, not really what you're talking about but a pretty extreme setup. I don't think they're any stiffer than anything else but I've never been able to feel stiffness in cranks so YMMV.
