White Industries doesn't strike me as the sort of company to release a non-durable product design. What I can see from the photos is a pretty logical, durable interface. Look at the total bearing surface of cog vs hub as opposed to the Miche carrier system - The Miche cogs have seven fairly-short "nubs" for engagement, whereas the White Industries has TWELVE, all of which appear to have significantly deeper engagement with the hub. Additionally, the White Ind has a nearly-continuous torque-bearing surface, given the continuous wave pattern of the engagement system, while the Miche has seven big flat spots in between the nubs, meaning that the White Industries design has a lot more surface area over which to distribute the various forces involved in the cog/hub interface.

Didn't you strip your "original" eno hub from normal fixed gear usage?

Fugazi Dave 03-11-07 11:36 AM

First generation out on the market combined with user error - I don't blame them.

Edit: I should clarify. I did indeed strip the lockring threads on a first-generation ENO eccentric hub. Part of it was stupidity on my part, part of it was an acknowledged problem with some of the first out on the market - of which mine was one. Yeah, there was a defect in the product, but every good company, no matter how vigilant in their quality control and genius in their product design, will inevitably have a few troubled items go out into the marketplace. Despite my personal issues with one individual hub they made, I thoroughly believe in the quality of design and manufacture of White Industry products.

I am all over that like a fat kid on cake.

I disassembled my Eno Eccentric a few times, and while the manufacturing is not terrible, it felt cheap and badly done compared to the money I paid for it. That, and the fact that one of the cartridge bearings cracked 3 months into light usage. I am light. I will not say it's a bad hub, just that it's overpriced.

That seems really atypical for a White Industry hub. I've disassembled my ENO hub a few times and everything was done really nicely. A very nice component - maybe you got a slight lemon?

Proprietary cog AND proprietary crankset/chainrings - f*ck yeah! These guys are on a roll, I tellz ya.

And there are enough naive/stupid cyclists who'll flock to them. That makes me a bit sad, but what business is that of mine. Their money.

It definitely could be.

how many of you that are complaining about the miche cog system actually have owned or ride one? I have one and have had no problems at all.

Every time I see these proprietary solutions, I remember what Jack Tramiel once said to Bill Gates: "Thanks but I am already married."
