Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Poseur demographic: Two fools walking their shiny rigs on U St. in DC last week who, when I greeted them with a "yo, fixie," shouted back "yo, f--k you." Nice.

Haha, it's like skateboards in the 90s again! If tweenies are getting into fixed gears, you know the fad is on its way out.

Hopefully my bike won't look like that when it is built up, but it's a pretty standard old Bianchi frame so I think it'll be alright.

I personally like seeing kids, look to be around 12 or 13, riding bikes again.
If the fad is on the way out than that's great. Cheaper used parts for anyone not riding fixed because it was hip not to long ago.

And if those kids actually stick with it, they'll be crazy strong riders in ten years. Not that it benefits me, but it's always rad to see.

I almost posted that one.
What scares me more than the paint job is the lack of foot retention and brakes, along with the rear wheel being at the end of the dropouts.

Restore = bring back to as near original condition as possible. Read the description, it started of as a New Old Stock (NOS) bike in red, it was then stripped and powdercoated green with flake, then built up using a bunch of random gold parts.

I hate to argue semantics, but pimping out an old bike like this is not a "restoration". The frame was probably worth more in its original state.
Exactly, and that's why this is total jackass (deep pocket jackass, but still jackass).

The NOS frame could have been touched up and re-decaled if it was shop worn like the description sez. Then built up with a period Record Pista group, Cinelli or TTT bar/stem, Unicanitor, and Fiamme track rims. Then you would have a "restoration" and a beautiful vintage pista.

The gold stuff and the Brooks looks like puke on that frame to my eyes.

But its aesthetically pleasing to your average hipster with no appreciation for anything but style.

it's not a fixed gear phrase it's something this guy had on his wheel and someone thought it was funny, so bsnyc posted it and now it's synonymous with hipsters that don't care how dumb their bikes are. i think it's funny, but it's not a "fixed gear bicycle phrase"
