Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I just get this image in my head of that rear wheel exploding as the zip ties rip through the spokes. That would be awesome to witness. Probably about the same effect as throwing a broomstick through the rear wheel while moving. Tempted to buy it to attempt to destroy it. Ah hell, not even close to SF.

I emailed him, saying that I had no interest in the bike, but wanted to see a picture of the zip-tied wheel. I didn't get a response. The seller did, however, update his ad:

"I have a fixed gear bike i want to sell. Here's the specs that i know.
Raleigh frame and fork set. Blue frame black fork.
1 1/8" threadless stem
odsy pedals and aitken seat (hole in the middle though)
shimano cranks
new tires
needs wheels. if interested shoot me an email with you phone number. asking only $300 OBO. "

I don't know that you'd really need a new front wheel, though.

Yeah, no brakes.

(I linked the pics straight from Craigslist, and I don't know how long they'll stay up.)

What fails first, the zap straps, or the spokes. Despite being terribly jackass and dangerous, I have to admit, it's pretty darned ingenious.

i must be missing something. $900 isn't exactly a bargain for this bike, but its def. not jackass. if you dont like the pink chain (*only thing i could see being too cheezy) its an easy replacement and definitely doesn't kill the bike in any way. cool frame too.

Not to mention the length of the drops, or lack thereof.

"- rear dropouts drilled back to allow rear wheel to get tighter to frame (Steven at Bilenky wouldn't let me go to far so as not to jeopardize frame integrity)
- also adjusted front fork rake for same reason...little bit of toe rub up front."

Sounds like he picked up a frame for cheap, then modified it to make it twitchy as hell.

EDIT: I don't know that an 80s Madison counts as 'cheap'.

^ Those first bars look very uncomfortable and are aesthetically awful.

What bars are those on that black bike? Can you even use the drops?

^they kind of look like some nitto bullhorns I have on my shogun time trial bike, just flipped around like drops. I don't recall any name being stamped on the bars besides just "nitto aerobar". they kinda look like track drops that got flop and chopped and then drilled for internal cables
