SS in the works.

I have posted this frame before. Very little to no love for it over here. I was running a freewheel until it fell apart. Now i got a new rear wheel (have had it for a few months now). Today i got the rear cog (which is a little loose for my tastes) and a BB cause the last one was horrible.

I will be ordering one of those beefy surly cogs but first i need to find the right ratio. So i got a 6eu 20t cog.

Everything is in place, other than pvc pipe (spacers), and a BB tool. (yes they are bad, phone-pics)

Bit loose

Ghetto cranks and chain ring

Look at the left side (right side of pic) of the BB it doesn't go all the way in, i think its just to long, gotta cut a few mm off.

what part of the bb are you planning to cut?

i'd try having a shop chase the threads before i started cutting stuff.

The plastic screw thing...

I did the same thing with a rear wheel that I found in the dumpster. Works really well but I used the cassette that was on the wheel. I popped it off and it was an old worn out Shimano cassette but the 12t cog was fine so I used that. Here is how it ended up:

Looks like some tough ratios. Nice bike though. I might try painting the frame, the cheap way. Just clean it and sand it down, cause i can find aircraft paint striper, and norm paint striper doesn't work. i tried it on the fork, looks ok.

Is that a 73mm mountain bb in a 68mm shell?

is that possible?

I might explain that plastic thing... right?

Now what?!

dirtyphotons 03-14-07 03:07 PM

check the bb itself, it should have a 68 or a 73 on it.

diff_lock2 03-14-07 03:39 PM

its 68, just checked.

It's a 535 but yeah, I couldn't believe it either. Two spokes were borked but that was it. Nice bike, I wish I'd found the front as well ;)

diff_lock2 03-15-07 01:12 PM

I got a used cassette from this other lbs, it looks like they specify in offroad and "COOL" biking, for free!

So now spacing is not a problem, who needs PVC (well actually i couldn't find any!).

I have a feeling the chain isn't perfectly strait, is that a problem? also how tight should the chain be... at high rpm (pedaling, cascade or what ever) the chain flops... Its also cause it has some really sticky grease (factory).

That is the coolest unicycle I've seen in a long time.

If only it were fixed.

i need new bearings for the head set (fork), and gotta get some grease too.

Oh and a BB tool.

moe sizlack 03-15-07 02:18 PM

:roflmao:

Oh yeah...Guess a freewheeling unicycle would be hard to balance.

diff_lock2 03-16-07 07:05 AM

uh, SS is not exactly cheap. This bike is using the cheapest ***** ever (cheap parts), and it looks like crap. and its costing me over 100eu!

Rear wheel was 45eu (with a 7sp cassette)
A new front is going to be 30eu (but im going to the used bike place to find a cheaper front)
Cranks were 10
Chain was 12
cog was 6 (i want a surly one for 27eu)
BB was 27
tires are going to be around 40 (both)
saddle and seat post are going to reach 20eu
bearings...

i need to find used bars and stems, even a fork! (cause i don't like mine)

This isn't cheap at all... and the crank is not ideal, i'm sure i will have clearance issues under pressure.

oh AND THE TOOLS...

fordfasterr 03-16-07 07:18 AM

it would have been cheeper if you just found something used on ebay or locally ... then just modded a few little bits here and there...

I have a similar problem with a spare frame that I tore down a few months ago, I just can't see myself spending $ 200 + to rebuild it !!!

She now hangs in my garage completely bare of almost every component...

Yes it is, you just didn't do it on a budget. Mine was cheap as free.

you can use them to remove the BB.

Yeah i thought so, thats why i went to check them out, they didn't open wide enough for the BB... im going to go to my closest lbs and let them tighten it up...

Yeah, i guess i messed up...

Next build i should just get a used bike and strip it, and run SS or suicide(sp?) FG.

diff_lock2 03-16-07 04:54 PM

75psi blow out at my feet. RINNNNGGGGGGGG this is the last time im reusing tubes!

Don't know what to do with the front wheel... cause that one just sucks. And the used bike place didn't have anything much better. The tires are really nice though.

I need brake levers (5eu, new), and i think i have all the cable (and housing) i need.

floor pump (second pic), 75psi, not that high. Its just it was a REALLY ****ty tube.

dutret 03-16-07 05:09 PM

****ty tube? ****ty tire? improperly mounted tire? or wrong tube?

Great tire, old ****ty tube.

For the rear, i hope i sized the tube right, and i checked, doesn't look like its pinched anywhere.
