Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: so many

You're making it really hard for me to keep it real. I had to barely skim most of this thread.

Bikes: something fixed, something broken

Unfortunately this doesn't exist for carbon or any composite of this nature, because the strees/strain information is directional, and is also going to vary greatly based on assembly/layout. Said information does exist for any alloy you're interested in, but I really don't see the point in having that information.

No it's not. A "scandium" frame is a really a "scandium butted aluminum" frame. It's added to aluminum alloys that would otherwise be impossible to weld. These alloys are lighter and stronger than a regular old 7005 aluminum alloy.

well then your discription of scandium should be added to the list cause scandium is listed as a material quite often on bike companies sites. it was my understanding that scandium was an aluminum alloy. so whatever; the tubes are treated(or have another element added to them) so that they can be welded whereas they would otherwise be unworkable. that makes them a different alloy and another frame material in my book.
