Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

fixed gear bike for excercise

so i mainly use my bike for commuting, making a living (on occasion), tom foolery, etc. with the good fortune of getting unemployment for the next 6 months and going to grad school in 5 months, i have decided to get into shape and i figure my bike is a great way to do it.

anyway, what are your cardio routines? whats all this about target heart rate? how many minutes, how many days a week, etc.

you'd prolly be better off posting in the road forum or the training forum. Mostofushere 'train' by riding to (or for) work and to the pub.

Ride for an hour or so until lost. Find your way home without asking for directions. Fun!

The most basic workout ive done on the fixie is get up to over 20mph and stay there as long as possible.
When you have to stop, sprint back up to speed.
