Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I dunno about wooden wheels, but I do like the wooden fenders and rack. Those are the bees knees

Bikes: roadbikes and full-suspension mountainbikes

Purchase a truing stand for when the weather turns humid and the spokes need some turning. They definitely look cool.

ho do they actually keep the nipples on the wheels? Are there bands of some type to prevent the nips from crushing though?

And what kind of wood? Beech?!!

I'm a little skeptical as to what the advantages are (simply aesthetic?), but the disadvantages are probably much less than most people imagine.

Plus if you're actually going to use it on a track, thus fair-weather biking only on good surfaces, then I'm sure they work very well, or at least not poorly. On pot-holed roads, though...

what kind of brake block do you use on wooden rim? Could the rim actually catch fire on long descent?

hell yeah! thats why oil must be used to lessed the friction. i just use 10/30 motor oil n wipe it on with an old rag. its no big deal if it gets on the tires cause that will just wear off.

Does anyone know how wood rims are made? Are they bent wood, glued or one piece?

they are made from one piece bent into a hoop and fastened together, like aluminum rims..
i think usually glued and mechanically fastened
