Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

a near-single speed experience.

So, my mother's boyfriend bought them a set of walmart specials, and they invited me out on a ride. My mother is quickly approaching 60, so it was a slower ride thank I normally take. In fact, my normal means of pacing myself is to simply stop accelerating when I cant breath any more. While riding with my mom, I slowed down, I rode at just over a walking pace, and I decided just for giggles that in the few miles we rode, I just wouldn't shift. When we went down hills, I coasted. When we went up, I got out of the saddle.

You know what? I've not had that much fun on a bicycle in some time. It was awesome.

I'm sorry, I'm sure this is old hat to everyone in here, but I just had to share.

Now, the question is, what frame to start transforming into a flip-flop. =)

I did this. For a month or so I just quit shifting my gears and kept er in 52*20. I was riding a big commute too. It was fun and after that I built a fg road bike.
