So, I got my 2007 steamroller frame built up(pics soon) and I need to find The best cranks I can for under $100 preferably with chainring. Gotta be 165 and gotta be though enough to handle drunken fixie-cross.

I've been riding the IRO cranks for 2 1/2 years now, with many, many drunken rides. They seem to be holding up very well, thought the BB wasn't very hot at all. They're only $79, with chainring, available in black or silver.

what are the cranks you're upgrading from? the sugino rd's might not be a significant enough upgrade to seriously warrant 100 dollars. i would recommend watching ebay and craigslist for a used miche primato or sugino 75.

i got my 75 arms off craigslist in terrific shape for 100 dollars even, and things frequently pop up in the trade thread here... if you get the rd's, you will likely want to upgrade them later, and likely end up kicking yourself for not just spending the money upfront...

Well the cranks I'm running now are Bulletproofs I got from a friend who rode them for a year and a half. I don't want used cranks. If I end up going a little over $100 it won't kill me.

Oh yeah, and I couldn't find the IRO cranks on the IRO site.

spend the money, then. rd's aren't 100 dollars worth of an upgrade over bulletproofs, if you ask me. you will be grateful in the long-run.

if you are determined to buy new, the stronglight crank arms look closest to your budget, but i know nothing about them. maybe a search of the forums can yield more information on them, but i think most people will recommend that if you are getting into that price range you just splurge for the miches or the sugino 75.

So far it looks like I'm looking at around two hundred for a worthwhile cranks and chainring. ****, that's half my rent

if your budget is that tight, why not at least consider buying used or trading? post in the trade thread, check ebay, and check craigslist RELIGIOUSLY because you never know what can come up!

in all seriousness, though, these guys do have a point that if your budget is that tight, it just might not be worth it to drop serious money on a high-end crankset. riding nicer **** is more fun to me, but i'm still going to be having fun as long as i'm on a bike. (to be honest, i'd probably have more fun making the rent and riding a **** bike )

I have sugino rd cranks on my steamroller and they feel fine.

dont worry about the scary picture, Im sure if you looked around you could find some dura-ace cranks or something ****edup.

on a side note, RD's are a double ring arm so they can be mounted on either side. I have a feeling the chain was loose and it started derailing it couldnt go anywhere since the back wheel is mounted and momentum kept everything moving and it ripped open the chainring and broke the spider arm.

That's the RD chainring. Not the Zen ring. No way you'll have a Zen ring fail catastrophically. I'm looking at mine right now... there's just no way.
