st00pid toe straps

just broke my second one. !@#!#@$@#$#$@$. should i try to ride home with no strap (i do have brakes) or am i just asking for certain death? i'm just afraid i'll forget i don't have the straps, try to brake like i normally would, and end up eating asphalt.

any recommendation for straps that don't suck and will last me longer than four months? and i'm not crazy about clips.

power grips.

diff_lock2 04-16-07 01:13 PM

power grips... i want some!

Im using SPDs atm. (clipless)

vond freedom 04-16-07 01:17 PM

these power grips look pretty rad. they just screw on any old pedals?

Well not ANY, but ones with holes for reflectors i think...(someone correct me)

dirtyphotons 04-16-07 01:20 PM

yeah, they screw in the same holes that toe clips use.

due to clearance, they won't work very well with those pedals that have one side clipless and one side platform (learned that one the hard way) but they should work on any pedal that works with toe clips.

Retem 04-16-07 02:02 PM

go clipless

toshi doubles. cheaper than clipless (until they break again) and you can wear shoes you like

Dumpsterlife 04-16-07 03:30 PM

lazy, my bust...that was kinda ridiculous

funny, i have some of those and didn't realize it.

Learn to skid with the opposite foot

kbrown 04-16-07 04:46 PM

I'm interested in a set of double straps. Toshi gets thrown around here a lot. Where can I order some for a pretty fair price. I guess I'll also need some new toe clips too?

freeskihp 04-16-07 05:44 PM

at the preasent moment I am digging nylon straps-dirt cheap, long lasting, and cheap

be sure to file down the points where the pedal comes in contact with the strap

+1. i also learned how to do a 'jamaican skid. very easy. strap that is broken(pull up with), put foot on underside of pedal and you will do a skid. toshi dubles r $100 but very worth it. i have the on my bike and will never want to go clipless or single strap again

Man, now I'm split between Powergrips and double straps (Toshi, MKS or Sprint) now that I just researched Powerstraps and they're cheap and have pretty much across the board positive reviews. All I know is I'm obsessed with maintaining a perfect cadence and single straps aren't gonna cut it in the long run.

Has anyone used both Powergrips and quality double straps?

why do you ride a fixed gear bike then?

monsterkidz 04-16-07 06:48 PM

I've found that a quality single strap is all I need. I currently run MKS Alpha singles and my foot does not budge unless I want it to.

what are you talking about? fixed gears help you develop a better spin, this is no secret. what i'm saying is i want a more intimate me-to-bike feeling than i get with single straps, i ride fixed for the fun of it and the more i'm connected with my bike, the easier / more fun it is to ride in an efficient manner.

here is my advice get some laminated leather straps and get on with it velo-orange has alara laminated straps for about 40 bucks they work great I have changed over to clipless and love it

john_and_off 04-16-07 06:58 PM

username andrewssohip broke a pair of power straps, so there is one negative review

they seem gimmicky to me. there is a reason clips and straps are the enduring favorite alternative to clipless.
