Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

sweet relief....

sweet relief....

so today, i was locking up my bike and saw cracks running up and down the downtube and over the bottom bracket shell. i ****in' freaked. i ran inside to drop off my package, and was thinking i'd have to call home to have humangirl drive her van down with my mtb in it and switch bikes mid-day...and get a new track frame (part yay, part...the tears of parting with an old, good friend).

a closer look revealed the "cracks" to be some sort of tar that splattered all over or something. a thumbnail scratched it off.

but damn, i just glanced, and didn't take the time to inspect thoroughly, and it scared the bejesus out of me.

That happens to me to, I just repainted my forks and the paint cracked a little after it settled and then little bits of grease drip from my headset on to the cracks and it looks like its just falling apart.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So what I thought to be paint cracks were indeed my fork breaking, I was riding home last night and I hopped off a curb, it felt like I had front suspension, I stopped and checked it out. My fork crown totally cracked and my forks now have 2 inches more rake, WTF!!!!! I have never even heard of this happening, like a month ago I took it to the shop for reassurance and was told "no way thats cracking, its just your paint, dont sweat it"

Good thing you hopped that curb, imagine if it had waited till you were going 40mph down some hill or something.
