deep-v's - looking for info...

First, hello. I have been a long time reader of the forum, and finally had a question to ask. So here it is...

Is there a list anywhere or does anyone know all the colors you can get deep-v rims in that are anodized?

I am specifically wondering about the ti grey or limited ed. dark green colors. Are they pwdr'd or anodized?

Also, if anyone has first hand experience running brakes on either the full anodized or painted deep-v with NO machined sides, please chime in. I am building a new fixie, and run a front brake for emergencies only. I simply can't stand the look of the machined deep-v's, and want to run the full painted or anodized versions. Looking for info on how fast the colors wear down, performance, etc. with brakes.

Thanks so much in advance

All of the colours and if they are anondized or painted is here https://www.velocityusa.com/default.asp?contentID=550

If you run a brake on a non machined surface it won't work as well and will eventually take the paint off leaving basically a machined sidewall

I'm pretty sure the first time you grab the brake, the sidewall will look awful. Also, the brake will not work nearly as well, which is not desirable if you're only using it for emergencies.

is it possible to purchase Deep-V rims individually?
for instance, is it possible to buy two rims with only one machined?

check out some local bike shops. find good ones with honest hardworking people and support them. the internet will never be as good as real people and i think the day that we lose out on nice shops will be an awful day.

Sure, why not? Ben's Cycles has an online custom wheel builder that lets you buy them one at a time, machined or not. I'm sure places like Yojimbo's Garage will build to order too. I know Tony at IRO will too.

buy your rims in a nuetral color like black and spray them with sparay paint when the breaking wears down the paint.

the difference between machined and non-machined is more than the color. the non-machined are just that. manufactured then painted. The machined have a smooth brake track cut into them for more even braking.

the paint will take long to wear away if you dont brake much. I think its more of a safety concern if you have to do long descents where your relying on your brake to stop you. I put my machined front on my roadbike to ride today, and i definetly generated an interesting paint smell on a long descent. The track on mine is narrow enough that my brake takes up the whole thing plus some. Dont razz me about adjusting my brakes!

I'm looking for a single non machined deep V rim. I already have a matching non-machined set for the track but I think I'll get a second front wheel that's machined so I can run a front brake. I was able to find a quick release older Campy hi flange hub so it will be perfect as the road hub.

I think of anodized as kind of like dyed.
