oh jesus. no one wants to give this kid a straight answer.
try a nice low gear, I learned on 49x18. I don't know how many gear inches that is. I hate math.
Good luck. don't hurt yourself.

Toodles.

p.s.you coulda used the search button for this.

piwonka 05-09-07 03:29 PM

gosh.

ok, mrap, what is your current gearing?
it's all about technique, gearing will help some but not much.
you want about 68-72 gear inches i would guess.

I would get your rear cog set to 17, that way there are 17 skid patches, and always will be no matter what your crank is.

I first learned on 44:17, which is about 2.5 gr. Now I skid on 46:15 and 46:17. Surface choice is key for learning how to skid, but muscle the rear pedal HARD and you'll learn how much effort for each skid.

Bullhorns/pursuit bars help move the weight forward a bit as well, but risers have worked fine for me.

Furthermore, if he is riding brakeless, learning to skid is a pretty helpful part of riding the bike.

Really? Can anyone explain how skidding is beneficial?

When brakeless, skidding is the most secure and quickest way to stop. Skiddzzzz für daaaayyyzzzzz

But it does include style points. Is there a faster way to stop? Skip stopping?

I have a 51. 17 patches for me too?? :D

m4rx12 06-03-12 12:29 PM

start by leaning forward on the handlebars and locking one knee against the pedal coming around, while bracing your quads against the handles. Start by putting litterally all of your weight on the front fork ant trying to skid, then you can get into fancier stuff. For example one leg over the handles.

no... 1 skid patch. 2 if you can skid ambidextrously! 50:17 would give you 17 though

solipsist716 06-03-12 12:30 PM

Why in the hell would you want to ride a bike with 17 skid patches on the rear tire. Sounds like a ****ty day to me.

Perhaps she has a lot of old tires to use up?
