Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

they're a german company and my LBS started carrying their brand. i looked through their catalog and they had some colorful 700x23cs that look really thick/high quality. according to their durability meter, they're supposed to be ultra-durable compared to their other tires, and they have reinforced sidewalls. however, i highly doubt they're accounting for people on fixed gears skidding with them. they're fairly reasonably priced too--i think they were about $40/tire.

there they are, has anyone used them? schwalbe stelvios.
I started riding Schwable Stelvios about in April They are nice so far - ride much more like a Vittorio Rubino but seem to have the durability of an Armadillo. I rode Armadillos for a long time and they certainly were great as far as no flats ever and took a lot before the red layer started showing and then before threads started to show. However, they ride like tanks and you really feel everything. I found them sluggish if they weren't pumped up to 120psi and a little to tacky/sticky after they got wet. My two month experiment with Rubinos was a disaster. I must have received two tires from a bad batch. I got slits in my sidewalls and on the tread. Something pierced my tire and went through the tube in two spots (though close enough that only one patch was needed). I did not skid a ton on the Rubinos but used to on the Armadillos and have continued to on the Schwables.
